Marie (Betty) E. Liskey, 86, of Newtown Square, PA passed peacefully on December 19, 2019.
Born in 1933 in Silver Spring, MD, Betty was the daughter of Walter Fehr and Marie Kasenter Fehr, both deceased. Betty was a 1951 graduate of Montgomery Blair high school in Silver Spring, MD. She married her teenage sweetheart Eugene (Gene) B. Liskey in 1951 and their marriage lasted 64 years, until Gene predeceased Betty in 2015. She was also preceded in death by her brother Norman Fehr.
Coming of age against the backdrop of changing times, Betty proudly embraced both the traditional role of homemaker and the opportunity to participate in the workforce. Betty’s work life began at Seibel’s Dairy and progressed through secretarial work and culminated with a successful career as a realtor with Re/Max. Along the way, Betty also found time to teach cake decorating for Sears.
Betty was a founding member of Epiphany Lutheran church and was active in church life, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, and serving on church committees.
Betty’s prowess in the kitchen was legendary and she loved to feed people. She found joy in decorating her home and was happiest when she was inviting people into it. An artistic streak led Betty to try her hand at many arts and crafts ranging from china painting to braiding rugs to all forms of needlecraft. She covered an entire wall of her home with a mural. She loved dancing and hosted parties to have an excuse to do it. She loved music and theatre. Decades of songs lived in her head and bubbled up and out often.
A warm, gregarious people-person, Betty “never met a stranger” and she collected friends wherever she went, including while traveling, which was a favorite pastime. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh. She never missed an opportunity to help or to lend support to others.
Betty was a true matriarch who is deeply loved and missed by daughter Charlene Fisher and her husband Steve; son Ken Liskey and his wife Sharon; son Mark Liskey and his wife Lisa Westfall; grandchildren Paul, Peter, Ken and Christie; six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
